The 2025 Chosen Star Animal was.....The Visayan Warty Pig!
The Visayan Warty Pigs are one of the most critically endangered pigs in the world; with numbers estimated less than 200 left in the wild. They are smaller than many wild pigs, usually only growing 2-3ft tall.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has been working with the EAZA Ex-situ Programme (EEP) as part of the global conservation of the Visayan Warty Pig. Hunting and deforestation is pushing this at risk species to complete extinction. This forest dwelling pig is already extinct on 4 of the 6 Philippine islands they once inhabited. A dramatic 98 per cent of their former range is not depleted.
